The Long Hot Summer
Many of my clients have been asking me how to stay looking stylish in the extreme heat we have been experiencing - certainly here in the UK. It is hard when all you want to do is sit in a pair of knickers and not much else! Clients are still approaching me for my services - examples below:
- personal shopping session because they have nothing in their wardrobe which is lightweight enough for the heat
- a personal styling session because they want to know how to make a simple T shirt look stylish enough to wear to the office
- wardrobe overhaul session because they need a refresh and a way to categorise their seasonal clothes - this helps them to see at a glance their summer wear
Some of the recommendations I have been making are based around the capsule wardrobe, as you would expect. Having a few key pieces which work with each other is the way forward for stress free dressing in any season. When the temperatures are sky high, look for fabrics that work well in the heat such as linen or linen mix, cotton etc.
Always a fan of a great ‘statement dress’ - I have been recommending to my clients who are attending events such as weddings, garden parties, graduations etc to choose the right fit as well as the fabric for that statement dress. In my own wardrobe, I am a big fan of the brand Scamp & Dude for their 100% organic cotton dresses which look amazing and keep me cool during a busy working day with clients.
With the clients I have been working with wanting personal styling and/or a wardrobe overhaul to help them dress in the heat, I tend to recommend simplicity of items - the loose fit trousers, silk shirt, etc and to ramp up the look with great accessories. There is a big trend at the moment for raffia bags - these look fabulous with the most simple of looks.
We are also in the middle of a polka dot revolution too! Many of my clients already have pieces in their wardrobe, some they completely forgot they had. Great for summer stylish dressing - clients have chosen a little frilled hem white skirt with black polka dot to team with a plain black vest top or just a polka dot scarf to tie back their hair in the heat. There is no need to be a slave to trends - a little nod to them is fine.
